Information hierarchy
Begin with the finished product and exposure, then identify the material layers and the decision to be made. A request for “waterproof breathable fabric” is incomplete until method, conditions, acceptance level, assembly and care are defined.
Submit the technical scope
For water resistance, include the method, pressure, duration, initial or aged state and whether the question concerns flat fabric, seam or product. For vapor transfer, identify MVTR, RET or the selected procedure with units and environmental conditions.
For durability, state abrasion, flexing, laundering, contamination, UV or heat sequence before retest. Describe the face textile, barrier layer, backing, coating or lamination route, GSM, width, color and finish. A result for one construction cannot be assigned to every variant.
For an assembled product, identify seam tape, closures, vents, cuffs, hood, footwear bonds or glove interfaces that affect water entry and vapor movement. Include sample stage, quantity, production volume, target date and destination market.
Attach reports only when necessary and remove unrelated confidential or personal information. The review checks issuer, entity, specimen, standard version, date, validity and limitations. Missing evidence is recorded as an open requirement rather than replaced by a generic certification statement.
If an earlier sample is referenced, include its identifier, approval purpose and any later change in layer, adhesive, shade, finish or process. A hand sample may support appearance review; sample yardage may support assembly; neither automatically releases a production lot. State which decision the response must enable and who will approve it.
